THE FOUNDATIONS IN LAY MINISTRY PROGRAM (FLM)

The Diocese of Orlando offers a three-year program for the formation of lay ecclesial ministers. Pastors recommend lay women and men who feel called to lay ministry within the church and who have already demonstrated the capacity for leadership within their parish but who could benefit from theological education and ministry formation.  FLM is a three-year certification program which, when successfully completed, ends in a public commissioning in the Cathedral by the Bishop of the Diocese.

Meeting at San Pedro Center one week-end a month for 10 months, FLM offers a schedule of courses which provides participants with a solid basis in Systematic Theology, Scripture, Liturgy, Sacramental Theology, Moral Theology , the Social Justice Teaching of the Church, Pastoral Ministry and Parish Leadership. In addition, participants engage in common prayer, theological reflection groups and special sessions on contemporary issues in pastoral ministry. Facilitators aid the participants in a regular evaluation of their human, spiritual, theological and pastoral growth. Once a year, in January, there is an FLM retreat.

FLM is located at the Diocesan Spiritual Development Center, San Pedro Center. It’s co-directors are members of San Pedro Center’s staff—Fr. J. Patrick Quinn, T.O.R., and Dr. Carol Stanton.  Mrs. Gloria Pagan is the Program Coordinator.
