Secular Franciscans are an international order founded by Saint Francis
of Assisi over 750 years ago. We are a community of Catholic men
and women married and single, living in the world, who seek to pattern
their lives after Christ in the spirit of Francis. We believe that
as human beings and Christians, we have such a sublime vocation that
we cannot fulfill it alone. In our common response to the Gospel,
we work together in community toward a deep evangelical life and
toward communion with all people.
The Lady of Poverty Fraternity of Secular Franciscans meets at San
Pedro Center on the first and third Tuesday of each month. We begin
with Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m. in Mary Mother of God Chapel. After
Evening Prayer and a short business meeting, we enter into a learning
experience on the spirituality and life of St. Francis of Assisi.
We look at how this spirituality can be applied in our lives today,
and how we can best follow in the footsteps of Christ through Francis'
teachings. We each have individual ministries within our parishes
or diocese, and are supported through prayer in our fraternity. Our
shared ministry is feeding the homeless every second Sunday of the
month at the homeless shelter, downtown Orlando.
If you have a longing in your heart to live the gospel, to walk in
the footsteps of a saint who walked in the footsteps of Christ, please
come and see what we are about. All are welcome to attend any of
our meetings. Contact Us for
more information, or call (407) 671-6322.
