Walk Lightly

Each Leaf, each petal,

each grain, each person,

sing your praises,

Creator God.

Each creature on the Earth,m

all the mountains and great seas

show your glory,

Spirit of love.

And yet the hand of greed

has patented and plundered

Your splendor,

has taken and not shared

Your gift,

has lived as owner of the earth

not guest

And so

the ice is cracked

the rivers dry,

the valleys flooded

and the snowcaps melt.

God our Father, show us

how to step gently,

how to live simply,

how to walk lightly

with respect and love

for all that you have made.

Sometimes taking risks can be a challenging part of life. Discernment is a huge part of our Catholic faith- figuring out where you are called and where to use your gifts and talents is something you don’t have to do alone. Pray for guidance and courage to take the first steps towards where God is calling you.

This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk. We have upcoming programs on his life, his writings, and his impact on contemplative prayer. He also leaves behind his “Prayer of Abandonment” for those who feel lost and are searching for direction with the desire to serve and please God with their lives:

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me. Nor do I really know myself.
And the fact that I think I am following your will
Does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you
Does in fact please you.
And I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this,
You will lead me by the right road
Though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore I will trust you always
Though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death
I will not fear for you are ever with me.
And you will never leave me to face my struggles alone.
