Rev. Mark-David Janus, C.S.P., Ph.D.  is the President and Publisher of Paulist Press in Mahwah, N.J.  Ordained for the Paulist Fathers in 1979, Fr. Janus is from Rochester New York and was educated at St. John Fisher College, Catholic University of America and University of Connecticut, where he received his doctorate.  Dr. Janus has served as a member of the medical faculty at Indiana School of Medicine, the Ohio State University College of Medicine, and the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University, lecturing on child and adolescent psychiatry, the doctor-patient relationship and the relationship between faith and medicine.  He has authored three books and over seventy peer reviewed papers focusing on the assessment and understanding of physical and sexual trauma in children and adolescents.  He has lectured internationally on the relationship of brain development and the spiritual awareness of children and adolescents. 

Recently, Fr. Janus is the editor of Crossing the Threshold of Mercy: A Spiritual Guide to the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, two theological articles in German, one on the Role of Men and Women Religious in the United States, and an article on the psychological dimensions of mercy.  His most recent book is: Your One Wild and Precious Life: Thoughts on Vocation.  In addition to his academic postings, Fr. Janus served as the rector of the Cathedral of St. Andrew, in Grand Rapids Michigan where he also was the Diocesan Director of adult faith formation and ecumenical relations. Previously, he was the staff of campus ministries at the Ohio State University, the University of Connecticut and Boston University. Fr. Janus resides at the Paulist Fathers motherhouse, St. Paul the Apostle, in New York City.

This will be a semi-directed retreat focused on Reconnecting with God through the Examen Prayer. Please note: due to the nature of this retreat, there will be a modified schedule for this week. There will be one presentation each day to allow for the opportunity for spiritual direction and confession.

Fr. This will be a semi-directed retreat focused on themes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Please note: due to the nature of this retreat, there will be a modified schedule for this week. There will be one presentation each day to allow for the opportunity for spiritual direction, and there will only be two socials this week— on Monday and Thursday evening.

Fr. Mark Yavarone, OMV, grew up at the New Jersey shore, the youngest of 10 children.  He graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia in 1987.  After college, he attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina, earning a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Anatomy in 1991.  During the same year, he entered the formation program of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary in Boston.  He made his perpetual profession of vows in October 1999 and was ordained a priest in April 2000.

He has since served as Associate Pastor at St. Andrew’s Parish in Avenel, NJ, has completed his certification in spiritual direction through the Cenacle of Our Lady of Divine Providence (associated with the University of Steubenville), spent nine years as a missionary in the Philippines, and served as a member of the faculty at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Boston, MA for six years.  He is currently on the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center in Venice, FL.
