Father Louis V. Iasiello, OFM, PhD (RADM, CHC, USN, Ret) is Director of Pastoral and Apostolic Formation and Professor, School of Sacred Theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio; he has served in seminary formation since 2010. Father Iasiello is a solemnly professed Franciscan of the Province of the Holy Name of Jesus (New York). He retired from military service after almost a quarter century of military chaplaincy; his career culminated in his selected to flag rank in 2000 as Deputy Chief of Navy Chaplains and Chaplain of the Marine Corps and in 2003 as Chief of Navy Chaplains (Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Maritime Administration). In the course of his career he received diverse assignments with Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard commands ranging from sea duty to combat operations in support of Marines to the faculty and staff of the Naval Academy to director of the Naval Chaplain School. His military decorations include numerous personal awards, combat action citations and various unit and service citations and awards. Father Iasiello retired from the military in 2006 and served as President of Washington Theological Union until 2008, when he was appointed to chair a federal task force by the Secretary of Defense.
A native of Staten Island, NY, Father Iasiello holds a PhD from Salve Regina University, as well as graduate degrees from Niagara University (Education), the Washington Theological Union (Divinity), Salve Regina College (International Relations), and the Naval War College (National Security and Strategic Studies). He also completed the Senior Executives in Government Program at Harvard University. Since retirement, Father Iasiello has guest lectured at the United States Naval Academy, the Naval War College, the Joint Forces Staff College and various other military and civilian colleges here and overseas. His doctoral dissertation is on just war theory and its application to modern statecraft . At the Josephinum, he teaches courses in history, moral and pastoral theology. In addition, as Director of Pastoral and Apostolic Ministry, he works with the transitional deacons and seminarians as they undertake various ministerial roles in the Columbus and surrounding dioceses in preparation for priesthood.
