Spirituality Series: The Theology of Conflict

Spirituality Series: The Theology of Conflict with Heidi Peckham

As we continue with San Pedro Center’s Spirituality Series, we are thrilled and honored to welcome Heidi Peckham as our next guest speaker.

As parish ministers who engage in the religious language of community, love and acceptance, we can be startled, dismayed and often overwhelmed by conflict!  Very often, our first response is to AVOID conflict.  This is the exact opposite of what our faith traditions calls us to do.  Sometimes our fear of hurting feelings causes more problems than what we like to think of as courtesy.  There are tools we can learn that assist us in our honesty and enable others to be honest in return thereby building stronger and healthier relationships.

Come and laugh and learn about conflict:  A positive definition.  Learn what tools you need to overcome conflict and move into friendship.  And recognize the tools needed to move beyond conflict to solve problems and build community.

Heidi J. Peckham, LMHC, received her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Central Florida in 1997 and gained her clinical experience working with young parents, teaching them effective parenting.  Ms. Peckham went to work for the Diocese serving Bishop Dorsey as the Director of Family Life.  She was appointed Secretary of Pastoral Ministries by Archbishop Wenski.  She retired in 2014 and has maintained a limited private practice as she continues with her first love of promoting good mental health through community education.

Ms. Peckham’s wealth of knowledge of our Catholic faith and our traditions combined with her clinical knowledge and experience makes all her presentations both informative and affirming.  Her specialty is Emotional Wellness and teaching us that all our emotions have a purpose, including anger.  Heidi’s presentation style and good humor makes for easy listening and fun filled learning.  Bring your note book, sense of humor and your neighbor, you will be glad you did.
