This will be a semi-directed retreat focused on themes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Please note: due to the nature of this retreat, there will be a modified schedule for this week. There will be one presentation each day to allow for the opportunity for spiritual direction, and there will only be two socials this week— on Monday and Thursday evening.
Ignatian Spirituality for Today’s Priests
This retreat will focus on the following themes from the Spiritual Exercises for today’s priests:
The meaning of life (First Principle and Foundation)
Deadly sins / lively virtues
Discernment of spirits for priests in today’s world (Part I)
Discernment of spirits for priests in today’s world (Part II)

Fr. Mark Yavarone, OMV, grew up at the New Jersey shore, the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia in 1987. After college, he attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina, earning a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Anatomy in 1991. During the same year, he entered the formation program of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary in Boston. He made his perpetual profession of vows in October 1999 and was ordained a priest in April 2000.
He has since served as Associate Pastor at St. Andrew’s Parish in Avenel, NJ, has completed his certification in spiritual direction through the Cenacle of Our Lady of Divine Providence (associated with the University of Steubenville), spent nine years as a missionary in the Philippines, and served as a member of the faculty at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Boston, MA for six years. He is currently on the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center in Venice, FL.
