Location: St. Augustine Building 100
Called and Unbound is a contemplative and creative series inviting participants to engage with scripture through imagination and expressive arts. Instead of reading biblical stories only for understanding, participants are guided to enter the story as if for the first time—listening with the heart, noticing emotional responses, and exploring through writing, visual art, and reflection. The program invites participants to deepen their attentiveness to God’s presence through sacred story, while also exploring their own personal call and transformation through the gift of imagination. Together, we will practice writing and art as prayerful ways of engaging with scripture and open ourselves to experiencing scripture as a living encounter with God’s Word.
Part 1: Called — Listening for the Voice
1 Samuel 3:1–10
The call of Samuel invites us to listen deeply for God’s voice and respond with courage. Participants may imagine themselves as Samuel, Eli, or even the lamp still burning in the night. Through creative expression and reflection, they will explore themes of attentiveness, awakening, and calling.
Part 2: Unbound — Stepping into Life
John 11:1–44
The raising of Lazarus is a story of waiting, grief, hope, and release. Participants may imaginatively enter the perspective of Lazarus, Mary, Martha, Jesus, the stone, or even the burial cloths. Through art and writing, they will reflect on what it means to be called forth and unbound into new life.
